Smart Travel

If a truly awe-inspiring experience is a priority for you throughout your stay, you’ll want to request a mountain-facing room. Those facing the northern mountains have incredible views of the forest hills and the sparkling domes of the memorial church. Waking up to see the morning mist spilling off the mountains with a cup of coffee in hand on your own private balcony is an experience that elevates the whole lodging experience.

Because of the area’s mountainous location the weather can be capricious even in summer. The days in the valley are hot and sunny but as soon as the sun dips behind the peaks the temperature drops. Be sure to bring a warm sweater or light jacket for balmy evening strolls or outdoor dining on the hotel terrace.

Take full advantage of the onsite restaurant! Tuck into authentic local dishes with hearty flavour - bulgarian dishes abound! There is delicious shopska salad and grilled former residents of local farms and there are plenty of wonderfully warming stews too. Varna isn’t a big place and restaurant options aren’t on every corner - it’s great to have quality cooking downstairs. Staff are always happy to recommend a good local wine or a glass of rakia to round off your evening meal.

If you are hoping to visit during that beautiful Rose Festival which takes place usually in late May or early June, you must book your stay several months ahead. It is the peak season for the whole valley and fills to overflowing with tourists from many countries, and those interested in photographic opportunities. Joining in the fun and visiting the traditional rose picking in the neighbouring fields, and the wonderful parades, is a rare treat.
